Besides reading all sorts of peer-reviewed medical journals, and books, Dr.Carol reviews several Cosmetic Doctor blogs and webinars and attends professional meetings. In 2013, she attended the South Beach Cosmetic Dermatology meeting in April, and the Vegas Cosmetic meeting in June. One of the interesting pieces of information was about a PILL, based on a Central American fern, that prevents the aging effects of sun damage. It is called Heliocare and is for sale at VFA now! One still needs the sunscreen, but this is pill makes it harder to burn and damage your skin. It is still an amazing advance in sun safety.
The Vegas Cosmetic Meeting is where all specialties who rejuvenate faces, dermatologists, ophthalmologists, maxilofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, ENTs etc, meet to share clinical updates, new trends and treatments. Here she learned about Microneedling, collagen induction therapy, a great way to soften those lip lines. We are the only place in the Upper Valley to offer this amazing treatment. In February, 2014, Dr. Carol travelled to Paris for the International Masters Class on Aging Skin. Here the HOT TOPIC again was microneedling ! There were demonstrations of regrowing hair with microneedling using stem cells from the patients own belly fat! Microneedling, collagen induction therapy, for facial rejuvenation was shown to work as well or better than some laser treatments for the same problem.

More on label reading….. Not only must we learn how to read food labels, but  now we must understand the labels on our skincare products. Just to add another layer of complexity to this challenge is the fact that just because a product has something in it, it doesn’t mean that it is in a high enough concentration to actually be helpful. Also, it doesn’t mean that it is in a formulation that can penetrate the skin. It is not called the skin barrier for nothing! Please ask Dr.Carol for advice before you waste your money. You can bring in your products for review at your next appointment.
